We all love our devices, but oftentimes they can affect our sleep in a major way. You probably already know that we need a good amount of undisturbed sleep to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Here are a few tips you can use to get a better night’s rest and keep distractions at bay.
Use Do Not Disturb Mode
Do Not Disturb mode is perfect for when you need to mute calls, notifications and alerts (all while your device is locked). If you’d like to make Do Not Disturb even easier to turn on, it can be scheduled. Here’s how:
- Open the Settings app
- Tap on Do Not Disturb
- There are several ways of doing this. I’d recommend using Scheduled, and then putting in the From to be approximately the hour you go to bed, and To for the hour when you normally wake up
Finally, there are options to Allow Calls From either Favorites, No One, or Everyone. You can also choose to Silence Always or Only while the iPhone is locked. These settings will help determine the extent of which you’d like to be bothered in an emergency.
Use Night Shift mode
With iOS 9.3 Apple introduced a new Night Shift mode that reduces the blue light on your screen. Some experts believe that this can help you get a less disturbed night’s sleep. Here are the settings that I use, which I believe has helped me in getting a more restful night (it’s also easier on the eyes and should help reduce strain).
- Open the Settings app
- Tap Display & Brightness
- Tap Night Shift
- You can now select your preference. I recommend using Scheduled (like we did for Do Not Disturb mode), from Sunset to Sunrise and make the Colour Temperature as warm as you can stand it (this will have an orange hue to the screen the more you turn it up)
Simply turn your phone off
It sounds obvious, but aside from what I had mentioned above, it’s a good way to ensure that nothing disturbs you (and saves you some battery). Stopping using your devices an hour before bedtime should help with settling yourself down before that much needed nightly snooze.

You can turn on the airplane mode and this will help you go to sleep without any disturbance
I too advocate using airplane mode as a way of not having my phone disturb my sleep. Do not disturb mode works well for those such as myself who utilize my alarm clock to start my day.
