Just the other day a friend of mine told me they wished they could post photos they had already taken on their iPhone to their Snapchat account. As it turns out, you can post existing photos to Snapchat, with just one caveat.
There are many times when accessing the camera from the Lock screen or Control Center is just faster than launching Snapchat. I know I would have missed tons of photo opportunities had I taken too long to launch a separate app like Snapchat.
Luckily, Snapchat does allow you to send existing photos with the help of the iOS share sheet.
How to post existing photos to Snapchat on iPhone
- Launch your Photos app and find the photo you want to share to Snapchat. Tap on it to open it.
- Tap on the Share button at the bottom.
- Tap on the Snapchat icon in the top row. (If you don’t see this option, scroll all the way to the end of the first row of icons, tap on More and make sure the Snapchat extension is enabled. You only have to do this one time.)
- Send your snap as you normally would.
This is where you will notice the one and only caveat when it comes to posting existing photos to Snapchat — you can’t post to the My Story section. You can only send your snap to individuals. Kind of a bummer but if you only want to share your photo with select people, this is the way to do it.
Hi Allyson,
Is there any -safe- way to upload existing photos/videos to my history?
Thanks in advance 🙂
I’m not sure what you mean? Your history?
Yes, the snapchat history, the one that is available 24hrs.
Oh the story. No, this doesn’t work for that. I said that in the article I believe.
