The iOS 9 keyboard brings with it some enhancements and alterations. Along with finally fixing the confusing Shift key, they’ve also tweaked the keyboard so if you’re typing in lowercase, the keyboard reflects that. Prior to iOS 9, the keyboard always showed uppercase letters, which left the Shift key as the only indicator of what case you were typing in. That means if the Shift key is not pressed or Caps Lock isn’t turned on, the keys will show as lowercase now.
While some folks have welcomed this change, others don’t seem to care for it. If you prefer the keyboard to always show uppercase keys like it did in earlier version of iOS, here’s how:
How to get uppercase keys back on the iOS 9 keyboard
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap on General.
- Choose Accesibility and then Keyboard.
- Toggle Show Lowercase Keys to OFF.
Once you’ve toggled this setting off, the keyboard will immediately show letters in uppercase all the time.

Nice tip! I’ve been so used to uppercase keys, and at least for now I don’t want to switch to lowercase keys. 🙂
