Apple Notes got a great update in iOS 9, so good in fact that a lot of us made the switch from Evernote to Apple Notes a permanent one. One of our favorite new features is the ability to share links to Apple Notes from almost anywhere using the Share sheet. You can even add links to existing notes, making it a great way to collect links you may need later. Here’s how:
How to share links to Apple Notes in a new note
While you can share links from almost any app that supports the Share sheet, in this example, we’ll use a web page we found via Safari.
- Navigate to the web page you’d like to save the link to.
- Tap the Share sheet button.
- Tap the Notes button.
- Tap Save.
That’s it, your link will be saved to a brand new note in your default notebook.
How to share links to Apple Notes in an existing note
- Navigate to the webpage you’d like to save the link to.
- Tap on the Share sheet button.
- Tap on the Notes button.
- Tap Choose Note:
- Tap on the existing note you want the link to be added to.
- Tap Save.
Your note should now appear in the existing note at the bottom.
Are you using the default Notes app on your iPhone or iPad? Why or why not? Let me know in the comments!
I have tried Notes and it’s pretty nice – and getting better but I am simply stuck on Simplenote. It’s just so, simple!
On MacOS 10.13.3, to link to an Apple Note from another note, I did the following:
1. Select the note you want to link to.
2. Click on the “Add people to this note” button at the top bar and select “Copy Link”.
3. Add your own email or phone number and click “Share”
4. Click on the “Add people to this note” button again at the top bar and it should show yourself invited to edit this note.
5. Click on your invited self and the “…” button to the right. Select remove access.
6. Click on the “Copy Link” button at the bottom of the page.
7. Go to any other note you want to add the link to.
8. Highlight the text you want to associate the link to and select from the top screen pull down menu “Edit>Add Link…”, paste the link in the box and press ok. All done. Click on the link will take you directly to that note.
You can copy the link to multiple locations without going through all the process above.
