The iPhone 12 is coming in 2020, and we know many of you can’t wait to try it. The only problem is that Apple isn’t really talking much about the device at this time.
That’s ok, though, as the iPhone rumor mill has been turning for quite some time now. Apple may not be talking much about the new iPhone, but a series of incredible (and solid) rumors hint at what is to come.
Here are all the iPhone 12 rumors you need to know about:
No Included AirPods for iPhone 12
Bad news, as most iPhone 12 rumors suggest that Apple is thinking about not including new AirPods with the new model.
It seems that the popular theory is that Apple wants to drive AirPod sales by encouraging those who don’t have them to buy one separately. This could also mean they’ll release a new model of AirPods.
Lighting Cables Over USB-C
More bad news as it seems that Apple will stick with Lightning technology over USB-C for another generation.
As we’ve noted elsewhere, USB-C technology makes it much easier to charge your phone faster than ever before. Sadly, Apple doesn’t seem quite ready to commit to this technology. However, there is good news on this front…
A Much Larger Battery
Apple may be sticking with Lightning chargers, but it sounds like they may be putting a larger battery in their upcoming phone.
Thanks to improvements such as a thinner OLED screen, Apple may finally have the extra room they need to slide in a larger battery. This would also explain why they’re not replacing Lightning chargers quite yet.
Full 5G Support (For Certain Models)
Apple was slow to make the 5G leap, but rumors indicate that the next iPhone will finally support that technology.
While it will be nice to see Apple finally embrace the 5G age, there is a small catch to this improvement which we’ll cover in the section below.
iPhone 12 Rumors Hint at Several Pro and Budget Options
Based on current rumors, these are the anticipated models of iPhone 12 which will be available at launch
iPhone 12
iPhone 12 Pro
iPhone 12 Pro XL
iPhone 12 SE
iPhone 12 SE XL
The names are subject to change, but the idea is that Apple will be making several iPhone options available at launch. The biggest difference between the models appears to be that only Pro models (and possibly the base model) will feature 5G support.
Late October Release Date
This one is a little debatable as there seems to be some discussion regarding whether or not the coronavirus has severely impacted the iPhone 12’s release date.
That said, most current rumors suggest that Apple is still shooting for a late October release date for the next iPhone. If they’re able to begin production by September, then it’s entirely possible that they will be able to meet that goal.
A Cheaper ($650) Price Point
That’s right. Most iPhone 12 rumors suggest that Apple is aiming for a $650 price point for the base model of the upcoming iPhone.
Not only has Apple been slowly reducing the price of their flagship iPhones, but with so many models seemingly being available at launch, it seems that Apple believes they can encourage buyers to go with premium options.
A (Slightly) Larger Screen
iPhone 12 rumors suggest that its screens will be thinner, but it also seems Apple wants to make them slightly larger.
Rumor has it that the base iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 XL models will have screens that are 0.3 – 0.5 inches larger than current models. It’s not much, but we appreciate the extra real estate.
3D Depth-Sensing Cameras
This is a feature we’ve seen in other phones, but iPhone 12 rumors point to it incorporating this technology.
Basically, 3D depth-sensing cameras allow for your phone’s camera to better understand depth. That means it’s also able to better adjust for elements like lighting, focus, and other common issues. This is a tremendous quality of life improvement that will greatly improve the iPhone 12’s camera functionality.
128GB Minimum Storage
More (mostly) good news as iPhone 12 rumors suggest that each model of next iPhone will feature at least 128GB of storage space.
While we’d honestly love for Apple to bump that number up even further, this is a respectable baseline to enforce. As for higher-end models, you can expect them to ship with at least 512GB with a 256 medium option available for some phones.
A Smaller Notch
For the most part, iPhone users have gotten used to (and even embraced) the notch. However, some still feel like it takes up too much of the screen.
The good news is that iPhone 12 rumors point to a smaller standard notch. How small is up for debate, but the hope is that it will only be as large as developers request for it to be.
An improved Face ID System
This is one of the more interesting iPhone rumors, but not for the reason you may think. Instead, it seems that some are suggesting this feature won’t be incorporated until the iPhone 13.
Regardless, the story goes that Apple wants to greatly improve their Face ID recognition system. While that will include some fun features, it mostly pertains to the phone’s ability to recognize users more easily and more quickly. This will likely result in greater overall security for iPhone users.
