Are you tempted to buy the iPhone SE but you’re worried you won’t be able to transfer Android data to your new device? Well, we have some great news for you.
It is indeed possible to transfer Android data to an iOS device. Actually, if you’re transferring that data to a new iOS device, then the process is actually quite simple. It can be a little more difficult to transfer the data if you’re working with an older device, but it’s still not that challenging.
Having said there, there is quite a lot you need to know about the process. It won’t take too long to finish the transfer, but you need to make sure you do things right unless you want to lose everything you’re trying to transfer.
Transfer Android Data to an iPhone: What You Need to Know
While it turns out that it’s not even that hard to transfer data from Android to an iPhone. While the two devices are certainly different, they share enough similarities to ensure that the process is relatively painless.
Having said there are a few things you need to know from the start when you’re preparing to transfer android data to an iPhone or any iOS device.
- Certain physical components (such as your phone case) are not compatible with iPhone and iOS devices. You’ll have to replace your charger and many other accessories
- You should still be able to use your Bluetooth android devices for iPhone and iOS. However, you may need to check to ensure the compatibility of each individual component.
- Some of your favorite Android apps will not work on iPhone. You should be able to find an alternative for each, but you need to know that it won’t be possible to transfer certain apps.
- You may not need to transfer certain data at all. Some information is stored in a service’s cloud. We’ll talk more about this feature a bit later.
- You should always back up your mobile information, but especially during a transfer process. Don’t assume that a transfer is going to work perfectly right away.
- You need to make sure that you’ve got enough free space on the device you’re transferring information to. If you’re trying to transfer too much data, the process may fail or encounter problems.
How do You Transfer Android Data to an iPhone?
Once you’re ready, there are a few methods you can use to transfer your Android data to an iPhone. We’ll start with the simplest one.
Use the Move to iOS Google Play App
Apple has thankfully made an Android app designed to handle much of the work that comes when you want to transfer Android data to your new iPhone. Here’s how you can easily use that app:
Download the Move to iOS Android App
- Choose the “Move Data from Android” option during the iPhone set-up process.
- Open the Move to iOS app on your Android device.
- Tap “Continue” on your iPhone or iOS device. You should receive a code. Enter the code on your Android device where prompted.
- Choose what Android data to transfer to iOS. You should receive a warning if the information you’re trying to transfer is incompatible.
- When you’re finished, choose “Done” on your Android device. Complete your iOS set-up process, and the information you transferred should be there when you’re ready.
As Apple notes, you’ll need to have a strong WiFi connection in order to complete this process. You probably won’t be able to do this over data. If you lose your connection during the transfer, you’ll likely need to restart. You’ll also need to ensure that both devices stay on during the transfer.
If you encounter any problems during this transfer process, you may need to restart both devices and try again. However, this should only be a last resort.
Manually Transfer Android Data to Your iPhone
To be clear, this is not how we would recommend transferring your Android data to a new iPhone or iOS device. You should just use Apple’s Move to iOS app.
However, there may be times when that option isn’t really viable. Whether you’re working with an older iOS device or you just don’t want to transfer everything, manually transferring some files is a fine alternative.
To do so, just follow these steps:
- Transfer your Android data to a PC or laptop via a USB cable. You should receive a notification on your computer that asks if you want to view the files on your device. If you do not, then you should be able to locate the device in the My PC section of your computer.
- Transfer the desired files from your Android device to somewhere on your computer. You’ll need them for the following steps, so put them somewhere easily accessible.
- Connect your iPhone to the PC that you transferred your Android files to. Once it’s connected, open iTunes.
- Select your device via the left panel on iTunes. Click the “Apps” tab and go to File Sharing.
- Choose the app you want to transfer files to and start dragging and dropping the files from your computer to your iPhone device.
This is a pretty foolproof way to transfer data between devices, but you should know that is slow and not really a great way to handle massive data transfers. It’s there if you need it, though.
Transfer Android Data to iPhone By Doing (Almost) Nothing at All
There is a chance that you may not have to do anything to transfer your Android data to iPhone. It just depends on what kind of data you’re trying to transfer.
Transfer Google Downloads Via Google Apps
Do you have movies, books, or songs you downloaded via Google Play on your Android device that you want to transfer? Well, you just need to download the Google Play app for iOS to do so. As long as you have an active Google Play account, you should be able to retain all of your downloads on your new device.
The same is true of other Google Apps like Gmail, Google Photos, and Google Drive. All of your saved Google information should transfer to your new iOS device without any extra effort required. The only exception would be certain files that may only be compatible on one device or the other, but such instances should be few and far between.
Transfer Android Data Using a Cloud Service
Do you have a cloud service app on your Android device that is also compatible with iOS? If so, then any data you have saved to the cloud should be easy to transfer.
You’ll just need to download the same app on your iPhone and log into your cloud account. Anything you have saved to the cloud should pretty much just be waiting for you. If you’re using a cloud service that isn’t compatible with both iOS and Android, though, then you’ll have to rely on other methods to transfer that information.
Transfer Android Data Between (Most) Apps
Many apps like Spotify won’t require you to transfer any data at all in order to pick up roughly where you left off. They’ll save most relevant information to your account, which means you just have to log-in to the service and jump right back in.
Just note that if you used services like Spotify and Netflix to download content, then you may need to transfer that content to your new device. The details and steps of that process will vary from app to app.
