Rdio will be shutting down for good at the end of the year. It’s been my streaming music of choice for an incredibly long time and I’m really sad to see it go. Since I won’t be taking Apple Music seriously any time soon, I’m heavily considering Spotify. As it turns out, a service called Byedio has already been set up to help you get all your music and playlists automatically transferred from Rdio to Spotify.
While I’m not completely sold on Spotify yet (I’m not a huge fan of the interface), I’m going to give it a try. I’m also going to be testing out Amazon Music again to see if that can hold me over until we know what Pandora has planned for Rdio.
In terms of getting content from Rdio to Spotify, a special hat tip to Twitter follower @andknf for tipping me on Byedio. If you’re going to switch from Rdio to Spotify, it doesn’t get any easier than this:
How to move your music from Rdio to Spotify
- Go to byedio.com from your computer or mobile phone.
- Click Login with Rdio.
- Once you’re logged into Rdio successfully, click Spotify Login.
- If you use Facebook, you may see a message asking you to grant Byedio permission to access some aspects of your profile, click Okay.
- Click on Pay $5.
That’s pretty much it. When Byedio is done transferring your music library and playlists from Rdio to Spotify, they’ll send you an email. In my case, it took about 12 hours total and Byedio was able to transfer all but a handful of songs.
The only down side was that some duplicate albums were transferred, but that’s easy enough to fix over time. Overall, I’d definitely recommend the service if you’re moving from Rdio to Spotigy.
What streaming service are you switching to?
If you’re an Rdio customer, it’s time to start thinking about what streaming service you should migrate to. Byedio certain makes the switch to Spotify an easy one. If you want to evaluate all your options, here are the ones I’d recommend considering, in no particular order:
- Spotify – Free trial, $9.99/month after – The best current offline and on-demand service option
- Google Play Music – Also on-demand and offers music locker for music you already own
- Amazon Prime Music – Free 30-day trial, free for Amazon Prime subscribers
- Pandora – One of the best for music discovery, no on-demand though
- Songza – Another radio type service, but awesome playlists
Just FYI – Songza just went away too. Shut down by Google Music Play.
They have been owned by Google for quite some time but pretty sure it doesn’t affect you using the service. Unless you know something I don’t, which could be possible?
Any Google Play Music solutions yet for migrating Rdio Favorites?
Not that I’ve seen yet.
