There’s nothing like a fast paced, action game that requires you to think quickly. These exhilarating games will make you want to play over and over again, and could also have you wanting to rip your hair out!
The games below share a couple of key things in common. They all have a unique look (whether that be pixelated, minimalistic, etc.), they all have exciting soundtracks, and they all incorporate an easy control scheme so you can focus on making fast decisions.
Grab a cup of coffee, and be prepared to think quick! Here are 3 games that are going to test your ability to react fast. Try to not break your iPhone in anger!
Super Hexagon
The first thing you need to know about Super Hexagon, is that its first difficulty setting is Hard, and it ramps up in difficulty from there. Created by the amazing Terry Cavanagh, who’s also made hits like VVVVVV, Super Hexagon has you play as a small triangle inside of a hexagon, and you have to try and escape a maze as the walls cave in on you.
The game moves fast, and as the difficulty level rises, the levels get speedier and more nerve wracking. Expect to hear the game’s announcer say “Game Over” quite a bit. Luckily, the only controls are to press on the left or right side of the screen to turn clockwise or counter clockwise to escape the hexagon.
The game looks like it could have been released on Atari, and its soundtrack complements that, with fun chip tune songs by Chipzel. Super Hexagon is delightfully retro, and will have you wanting to try and beat your score just one more time.

The Firm
The Firm is likely to draw you in with its charming 8-bit, pixelated look. In the game, you play as a stock trader atop a high rise building, trying to climb the corporate ladder as you make decisions on stocks.
The controls are simple, with a swipe left or swipe right to buy or sell. The game has a beat the clock feel to it, because if you take too long to make a decision on a stock, your papers will build up, and you’ll be fired. I won’t spoil anything in regards to what happens when you do receive that unforunate pink slip.
If you do happen to do well, you can rise the ranks, get upgrades, and buy bonuses that’ll help you along the game. The Firm is currently Sunnyside Games’ only offering on iOS, but it looks like they’re developing another action game for the end of 2016!

Duet
Duet is 1 of 2 games on this list that Apple have deemed an Essential game, and for good reason! The developer, Kumobious has developed an intriguing game for iOS and for tvOS.
In Duet, your character is a ring, with a blue orb and a red orb on either side. Just like in Super Hexagon, the controls are limited to press on either side of the screen to move the circle clockwise or counter-clockwise. You have to move the orbs out of the way of objects as you ascend up the level, and if you die, a little splatter of red or blue paint is left where you died as a reminder for when you play the level again.
The game has multiple modes, and all of them are interspersed with motivational phrases, which have now been released as part of Duet’s iMessage sticker pack. You’ll want to put headphones on for this one, as the soundtrack is beautiful. Seeing this game on the Apple TV makes its simple aesthetic, even more compelling to look at.
